Our Values

What We Do

At Heeney Civils we are committed to improving social value to benefit local communities. We achieve this through diverse and inclusive recruitment practices, supporting local charities and working with local, sustainable, and environmentally ethical suppliers.

We have a designated Social Value and Sustainability Manager who has worked to achieve Gold Member status with the School of Sustainability. She has engaged with the local community offering support to various charities including Let’s Grow Preston where we donated gardening equipment to improve and maintain local green spaces. We also maintain an extensive database containing the location and possible work radius of all operatives to allow us to place labour on local projects.

Employment

  • We recruit via geographic targeted campaigns, to support and grow local employment.
  • Where possible, we hire operatives from the surrounding community.
  • Previously we have had apprentices working on site and currently we have one apprentice within our office. We encourage and support the training and education of all our staff.
  • Heeney Civils has worked alongside Build-Up with Blackpool & the Fylde College for eight years. B&FC help hard to reach people gain qualifications in construction and help place them into work.
  • We attend open days to offer advice and guidance to students who will soon be looking for work.

Diversity, Equality & Inclusion

  • We are committed to supporting the principle of equal opportunities and oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination.
  • We use diverse, non-gender specific adverts and job description languages.
  • We work with outside agencies to recruit ex-offenders and ex-armed service men and women.
  • We ensure that our Recruitment Consultants are kept up to date with diversity issues ensuring that all candidate selection is done based solely on suitability for the role.

Environment & Sustainability

  • Continually improve our environmental performance.
  • Comply with environmental legislation.
  • Educate and train employees to enable them to work within sustainability frameworks.
  • Champion a paper-light office environment, with most processes being completed digitally and online.
  • Reduce the need for travel where possible and promoting use of Public Transport.
