Kier – Windy Harbour A585

Client: Kier

Project Description

The Windy Harbour to Skippool Bypass project is aiming to reduce journey times and ease congestion along one the busiest sections of the A585 that links Fleetwood to the M55. Being the primary road in the Fylde Peninsula, it is consistently congested during peak periods and has a high accident rate at its junctions with the A586 and A588. The high volumes of traffic is also a concern for pedestrians and cyclists.

The proposed scheme will focus on the construction of a dual carriageway bypass and the de-trunking of the original A585.

This includes the removal of the existing roundabout at Skippool Junction in favour of a traffic signal-controlled crossroad, the construction of a new roundabout at Poulton junction to link with the A586, and the construction of a new bridge to carry the existing Lodge lane over the new bypass.

Location: Poulton-Le-Fylde
Budget: 150 Million
