Project Description

The works were delivered as part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s (WYCA) City Connect programme, which was aimed at encouraging more people to travel by foot or bike into Leeds, in full partnership with Leeds City Council (LCC). The Project was broken down into 7 distinctive phases to maintain traffic flows.

The objective of the project is to improve cycling and walking infrastructure routes across the region by adding 1.5km to the existing network in Leeds city centre by linking up and filling the gaps. This is to support Leeds city region commitment to becoming a net zero carbon city region by 2038.

The scope of works include:

Installation of traffic management lane closures and installation of an urban 63 UTC traffic signal system.

Excavation of footways and carriageways.

Installation of new drainage systems, gullies and associated pipework and connections.

Installation of new traffic signal ducting with associated traffic signal poles and access chambers.

Installation of new kerb lines to form new cycleways and footways.

Footway and carriageway surfacing.

Installation of new signage.

Commissioning of new traffic signals systems to junctions.

Road markings.
