Heeney Civils is proud to contribute its skilled workforce to the Coventry Very Light Rail (VLR) project, an innovative initiative led by Colas Rail UK’s Urban Division. This project involves the installation of a 220-meter on-road test track in Coventry City Centre, utilizing cutting-edge technology with precast track slab panels made from Ultra High Performing Concrete. The reduced depth of these panels minimizes the need for extensive excavations and large-scale highway modifications, significantly lowering both costs and carbon emissions.
The Coventry VLR project, which commenced on February 4, 2025, aims to revolutionize urban transport by making light rail systems more affordable and sustainable. The initial phase is expected to be completed by spring, with a four-week showcase planned for the summer. This showcase will allow residents to experience the new system and provide feedback, with the long-term vision of developing a comprehensive VLR network across Coventry.
